

Born in Sumter on October 15, 1943, Doris graduated from the Emory University School of Nursing and began her career at Grady Memorial Hospital. She went on to work for the old Columbia Hospital, Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina, and ended her career as a hospice nurse caring for those in need.
She married the love of her life, Wayne Covert, on June 5, 1965 and subsequently welcomed two sons.
The couple were active members of their community and the congregation of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. Doris served as a Deacon, an Elder in the Church, and was very active in the Women of the Church organization. Doris’ faith was something she held most dear.
Doris is survived by her husband of 58 years, Wayne; her sons, Jabo (Beaumont) and John (Tami); two grandsons, Bailey and Bryson; and three granddaughters, Maddie, Meredith and Sophia. She is also survived by her two brothers, Russell (Carol) and Will (Carolyn) Strange, and their families.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22 at Forest Lake Presbyterian, Columbia, SC with Dr. Ellen Skidmore presiding.
Memorials may be made to the Forest Lake Presbyterian Church endowment fund.
