
Elden Francis Kier, 69, of Columbia, died Monday, April 23, 2012. Born in Dayton, Ohio on February 9, 1943, he was a son of James F. Kier and the late Maxine Horne Kier. Elden proudly served his country in the US Army. After retiring from the armed services, he worked over for more than 20 years as a civil service employee at Ft. Jackson. A loving husband and father, Elden was a devoted friend to all who knew him. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, SC Division, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Lee Kier; sons, James F. Kier, Maxwell L. Kier, Elden F. Kier; five grandchildren; sister, Shirley (David) Harris; father, James F. Kier; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Mr. Kier will be held at 12 o’clock, Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 Wednesday evening at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.
