
White Rock – Elizabeth McClary Simmons, 97, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2012. Born on July 25, 1915 in College Park, GA, she was the daughter of the late William Benson and Mary Elizabeth McClary. She married Dr. Shelton Colman Simmons, Jr. in 1939 and they lived in West Point, GA for 50 years. After Dr. Simmons’ death, she moved to West Columbia and enjoyed 15 years at Laurel Crest Retirement Home. She was an active member of West Point Presbyterian Church and later of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Irmo, SC.
She is survived by her daughter, Sallie Simmons Fravel, (Dr. William Fravel) of Chapin, SC; her sons, Dr. Shelton Simmons III (Becky) of Baltimore, MD and Benson C. Simmons (Lucy) of Lanett, AL. She was extremely close to her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A family memorial service is planned for the spring in West Point, GA. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel, is assisting the family.
