Harry L Metz Sr.

COLUMBIA – Funeral service for Harry L. Metz, Sr., 85, of Columbia will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St Andrews Chapel with interment to follow in Elmwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014 at the funeral home, located at 5400 Bush River Road.

Mr. Metz, husband of Janet Mizell Metz, died on Saturday, February 1, 2014. Born in Richland County on July 23, 1928, he was the son of the late Junius Metz and Mattie Christmus Metz. He graduated from Irmo High School and the LSU School of Banking and Finance and worked in the banking industry for 43 years. He served as a member of the Masons, Shriners, and the Lions Club. He was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years and their five children; Harry L. Metz, Jr. (Pam) of Columbia, Brian Metz of Irmo, Craig Metz (Kim) of Prosperity, Helen Epting (Jay) of Irmo, and Karen McKenzie of Murrells Inlet; his ten grandchildren, Whitney Metz, Rebecca Epting, Brian Metz, Jr., Andrew Metz, Morgan Metz Smith (Matt), Courtney McKenzie, Rachel Epting, Caleb Metz, Matthew Epting, and Taylor Metz; and a sister, Betty M. Blankenship of Columbia.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Clarence Metz, Hubert T. Metz, Robert J. Metz, Libby Derrick, and Elma LeGrande.
