

Humberto Gonzalez, lovingly known as Neno, of Elgin SC, passed away on August 26th 2025 at the age of 87, surrounded by his family. Humberto was born in La Salud, Cuba on July 8th, 1938 to the late Francisco Gonzalez and Agela Madero. Humberto was raised in Cuba where he met and married Lazara Gonzalez, of this union two children were born, Irma and Jorge Gonzalez. Humberto is survived by his wife Lazara Gonzalez, son Jorge Gonzalez, two siblings, Hector and America and his five Grandchildren, Daniel Gonzalez, Matthew Jimenez, Ronald, Jimenez, Linda Jimenez, and Jacqueline Jimenez.
Growing up in Cuba Humberto learned the values of hard work and he was determined to give his family a better life. He made a courageous decision to leave Cuba in 1969 with his young family in pursuit of the American dream. He and his family arrived with little more than the clothes on their back. Humberto Gonzales is a true success story, building his life from the ground up through hard work and resilience. He achieved to ensure a secure future for his family. His life is a testament that anything is possible, and for this he was profoundly thankful for his new country, America. Humberto often expressed his appreciation by stating,
“God Bless America.”
A visitation for Humberto will be held Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Dunbar Funeral Home - Northeast, 4219 Hard Scrabble Rd, Columbia, South Carolina 29223.

Humberto nació en La Salud ciudad de Cuba en julio 8 del año 1938, hijo de Francisco Gonzalez y Angela Madero. Humberto fue criado en Cuba y contrajo matrimonio con Lazara Gonzalez, de esta unión nacieron dos niños Irma y Jorge Gonzalez. A Humberto le sobreviven su esposa Lazara, su hijo Jorge y sus 5 nietos: Danny Gonzalez, Matthew, Ronald, Linda y Jacqueline Jiménez y sus hermanos Hector y America.
Creciendo en Cuba Humberto adquirió valores de trabajo duro, responsabilidad y la determinación de dar a su familia una mejor vida. Tomó la valiente decisión de emigrar de Cuba en el 1969 con su joven familia en la busqueda del sueño americano, él y su familia llegaron con un poco mas que la ropa que traian puesta. Humberto Gonzalez es una verdadera historia de éxito, construyendo su vida desde cero a traves de la resiliencia y el trabajo duro. El logró asegurar un futuro para su familia. Su vida es un testimonio de que todo es posible , y por esto él estaba profundo agradecido por su nuevo pais, America. Humberto constantemente expresaba su apreciacion al afirmar "God bless America"
