
Mr. James Keith Smith, 67, of Columbia, South Carolina died Tuesday, January 3, 2012. Born in Columbia, on March 22, 1944, son of the late Patrick Chesley Smith and Nell Keith Smith, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of South Carolina. Mr. Smith served in the US Navy, and was a member of The First Presbyterian Church. He retired from the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism where he was a graphics designer.
Survivors include his sister, Catherine Smith Watson (Mrs. William L. Watson III) of Jackson, MS; brother, William Chesley Smith of Columbia; niece, Catherine Watson Wood of Mobile, AL; nephews, Dr. William Allen Watson and wife, Kathryn, of Jackson, MS and Jeremy Frierson Smith and wife, Monika, of Atlanta, GA; great-nephews, William Christopher Wood and Jackson Carlisle Wood, both of Mobile, AL, Ethan Frierson Smith of Atlanta, GA; great-nieces, Caroline Sullivan Watson, Elizabeth James Watson and great nephew Robert Allen Watson, all of Jackson, MS.
The service for Mr. Smith will be held at 1 o’clock, Saturday, January 7, 2012 in the Smith Chapel of The First Presbyterian Church, 1422 Washington St, Columbia, with burial in the Churchyard. The Rev. L. Craig Wilkes will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service in the Atrium of Jackson Hall. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be made to The First Presbyterian Church Missionary Fund, 1324 Marion St, Columbia, SC 29201.
