Janelle Johnston Underwood

Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026.

Jan was born on January 23, 1933, in Sutton, West Virginia, to Eliza Jane Johnston and Boyd Johnston, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of more than fifty years, Jack Clyde Underwood, and her daughter, Dianne K. Allen.

Jan loved being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She found immense pleasure in caring for and spending time with her grandchildren, especially during the many hours she spent babysitting them. Jan also had a passion for travel and enjoyed exploring new places whenever the opportunity arose.

She is survived by her three children Patricia J. Brown and her husband Adrian Brown, David Allen, husband of her late daughter Dianne K. Allen and Elizabeth S. Underwood. She is also survived by her four grandchildren Katya Brown, Michael Allen, Sasha Sutton, and Kevin Allen, along with eight great grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable happiness and pride.

A short, private ceremony will be held at a later date as Jan is laid to rest alongside her husband at Arlington National Cemetery. Service details will be announced when arrangements are finalized.

Jan will be truly missed by all who knew her.
