

John Paul Styron, lovingly known to many as “Paul” “Paw Paw” and “Poppi,” passed away peacefully with immediate family surrounding him on July 16, 2025 in Chapin, SC at the age of 80. Paul was born on February 7, 1945. Paul was a native to Saluda, SC and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1969. He later became a loyal employee of the Norfolk Southern Railway where he devoted 17 years before his retirement in Fairhope, AL. Paul lived a life full of laughter, love, and boundless conversation.
Paul was a devoted husband of Patricia “Pat” Styron with whom he shared 45 joyful years of marriage. Together they built a strong example of a loving marriage while raising four children whose lives will forever be enriched by his strength, warmth, and humor.
Paul is survived by his wife, Pat Styron; his son, Mike Styron (Donna); two step children, Heather Lucius (Stacy) and Reed Loftis (Kris); two sisters, Cathrine Coleman (James) and Nita Spell (Jesse); two grandchildren, Kelli Jennings and Carli Lucius; and his great-grandchildren, Gracie and Josie.
Paul was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Styron; brother, Ted Styron (Shiela); mother, Annie Bell Styron; father David Otto Styron; and granddaughter, Kayla Salter.
Paul was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church in Lexington, SC and was a firm believer in Jesus Christ.
Paul was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) in Fairhope, AL where he enjoyed shooting for competition.
Paul’s wishes were to be cremated and for there to be no services. The family will gather for a private dinner to celebrate his life and memory at a later date.
