IRMO – Funeral services for Louisa Rosa Giordano Newell, 89, will be on Monday, October 8, 2012, at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with the interment to follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home Irmo/St.Andrews Chapel on Sunday, October 7th from 5 until 7pm. Friends are invited to a reception in the church hall after the interment.

Louisa Rosa Giordano Newell slipped the bonds of pain early in the morning of October 4th after a long illness. She was born April 15, 1923, to Giuseppe and Grazia (Latteri) Giordano. Mrs. Newell was the youngest daughter of immigrant Sicilian parents.

Louise married William (Bill) Murray Newell Sr. on January 13, 1944 after a whirlwind courtship during WWII. They enjoyed a long and happy marriage until Bill predeceased her. It is known that she goes to Heaven to join her beloved Bill, as well as, her 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

Throughout her life, Louise devoted herself to her children first. She was involved in numerous civic and political organizations. She was a long-time member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church.

Mrs. Newell leaves behind 5 children: William (Bill) Murray Newell Jr. (Suzanne), Constance (Connie) Newell Cockrell, Edward Stephen (Steve) Newell (Anne), Clifford (Cliff) Anthony Newell (Jeanie), and Andrew (Andy) Neal Newell (Carol). Louise has 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Our family wishes to give special thanks to her caregivers that made her last days comfortable: Nina Blake and Karema Jagassall.
