

COLUMBIA – Michael Paul Widmer, 62, died at his home on Thursday, January 13, 2011. He was born April 7, 1948 in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his father, Charles Widmer and mother, Marie Widmer, also a stepson, Shaun Ryan Wisted. Surviving are his wife, Christine Ann Wisted Widmer and his children, daughter, Tamera Marie Widmer Frink (Mark) of Shallotte, NC; son, Brian Michael Widmer (Angy) of Columbia; brothers, David L. Widmer (Patty) of Allegheny Township, PA and John C. Widmer (Sheryl) of Lower Burrell, PA; five grandchildren, Lauren, Tiffani, Mark, Samantha and Jayden; several nieces and nephews; several cousins and dear friends.
Mr. Widmer was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, 199th Light Infantry Brigade, and served two tours in Vietnam. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a member of the Steelers Football Club. Mr. Widmer was employed by the PA Game Commission in 1973; also he was a welder with Hetric Manufacturing in Lower Burrell, PA. Later he was employed by Jerren Corporation in Myrtle Beach for several years and finally with Miller-Valentine Company in Columbia. His hobbies included piloting his 172 Cessna airplane, hunting and fishing, driving his motorcycle, bowling at Anchor Lanes, watching Steelers football and spending time with family and friends. Michael was a member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Columbia.
Funeral services for Mr. Widmer will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church. Pallbearers will include Larry Ramey, Mark Frink, Sr., Mark Frink, Jr., Brian Widmer, Perry Smith, Dave Widmer, Jack Widmer, Bill Hartnell, Tony Bowling and Darrell Eskew. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 16, 2011 and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January17, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel. A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday evening and the family will receive friends until 8:00 p.m.
