

COLUMBIA - Miguel Spruill, the beloved son of the late Edwin Bernard Lato Spruill and Canary Frazier Spruill was born on June 28, 1955, in Ahoskie, N.C. He was affectionately called “Gouey” and “Juice” by his family and friends. Miguel departed this life on Friday, October 3, 2014, at his residence from a brief illness. At an early age, Miguel was baptized and received his First Holy Communion at Our Lady of Rosary in Philadelphia, PA. He was an altar boy and a very active member of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). He also attended St. Thomas Moore. Miguel displayed leadership qualities and a genuine concern for others. It was at Our Lady of Rosary where he developed a passion for play acting, sports (football and basketball), and helping others. In 1966, he met Regina Marie Hill his soul mate at the age of eleven. In 1977, they married and to the union Ryan Miguel Spruill was born. After graduating in 1974 from William Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, PA, he enlisted in the United States Army. While serving his country he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant and later retired with an honorable discharge in 1994. He was a distinguished soldier, who received many awards and recommendations throughout his military career. He continued his education and attended Midlands Technical College in Columbia, SC. He earned an Associate Degree in Information Systems /Computer Science. He enjoyed building and repairing computers. Miguel enjoyed fishing, hunting, and music of all genres. He was a member of the Tri State Bass Club SC, NC, GA. To celebrate his homegoing and cherish the multitude of treasured memories he leaves his loving wife and childhood sweetheart, Regina; devoted son, Ryan; adoring granddaughter, Hayden; and her mother, Anabel. He also leaves to mourn his two brothers, Marcus Spruill (twin), Kevin Spruill (Cheryl); sister, Bridget Spruill Fennell (Keith); two uncles, Melvin Spruill and Reginald Spruill; three aunts, Carolyn Spruill Wynfield, Clorine Spruill, Virginia Spruill; brothers-in-law; sisters-in law; nieces; nephews; cousins; and other relatives and dear friends. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday, October 9, 2014, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, with burial following in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. A repast will be held at the funeral home immediately following the committal service at Ft. Jackson. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at the funeral home.
