Ria was married to Edwin A. Floyd for 58 wonderful years. Following retirement in 1998, the couple moved from Mullins to Columbia. Ria was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and several garden and bridge clubs in Mullins. She was also a longtime member of Mullins Macedonia Methodist Church. She was a devoted mother and best friend to her son.
She is survived by her son, Edwin Terry Floyd of Columbia and grandson, Edwin William Floyd of Charlotte. Also surviving are cousin, Dinah Rutland of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Glenda Morrison Carter of Atlanta and Shirley Carter Morris of Chapin; lifelong friend, Joyce Price Bryan of Mullins; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Ria also enjoyed many years of comfort and love from her Shih Tzu, Miss Sally.
She was predeceased by brothers, John Smith (Smitty) Carter, Jr. of Mullins and Bobby Peeples Carter of Atlanta.
According to her wishes, final arrangements will be private. Elmwood Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
The family is grateful for the help of caregiver, Mary Mitchell, as well as the staff of Prisma Hospice Care.
