

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Rose Mary Edmond, 74, will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2026 at the Fort Jackson Main Chapel, with burial in Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
Mrs. Edmond passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026. Born on May 29, 1951 in Evanston, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late William and Gertrude King.
A graduate of Northern Illinois University, with a BS and MS degree in Education, she retired in 2017 after 32 years of service for the US Army Child and Youth Services programs. She was the recipient of the Army Child and Youth Services Pioneer Award.
Rose was a generous, intelligent, and compassionate person—selfless, creative, and welcoming to all. She devoted her life to meaningful volunteer work, including collecting blankets for nursing home residents, transcribing documents for the National Archives, and serving as a Find a Grave volunteer. An author of several children’s books, Rose also found joy in scrapbooking, Bible journaling, sewing, baking, volunteering, and family game nights. She was a member of the Fort Jackson CYS community.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Ret. Capt. Charles V. Edmond; her children, Christopher (Venceta), Joshua (Chibaun), Nicole (Garth); siblings, Norma, Donald, John; grandchildren, Melani, Joshlynn, Jessica, Keyona, Jillian, Alonzo, Lauren, Mckenyzi, Trinity, Roman, Jada, Gabriel, Anakin, Elijah, Charles, Rosemary, Scarlett; and one great-grandchild, Avaya.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Kathryn, and grandchild, Vincent.
