A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church with burial in the church memorial gardens. Visitation will follow the service at the church.
Tom was truly a people person. He took pride in telling people, “God put me on Earth to make others laugh and smile.” He tried to bring joy and laughter into the hearts of all he met. Tom was never too busy to help a friend or even a total stranger.
He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a BS and MBA. He was formerly employed by the Farm Credit Banks of Columbia (AGI First) and founded Soccer Plus of Columbia. Tom was always active in helping others. He was the founding father of the Northeast Soccer Association and coached soccer for 15 years. He started the first under six-year-old program with 23 kids on the team. He was a former board member of the Columbia YMCA, Contact Help (Helpline) and Palmetto Place. Tom was Governor for the South Carolina District of Optimist International in 1971. He was a lifelong member of Optimist International and was a Spring Valley Presbyterian Church. He was also a volunteer for the South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Surviving are his beloved wife and best friend, Marilyn Erwin Quattlebaum; sons, Patrick Todd Quattlebaum and wife Katie of Atlanta, GA and Thomas Jason Quattlebaum of Columbia; daughters, Kristen Leigh Quattlebaum of Atlanta, GA and Kelli Quattlebaum Hankins and husband Josh of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Ansley and Addison Hankins; sister, Annette Novovic and her husband Mile; and niece, Victoria Robinson.
