

Columbia: The funeral service for Thomas Everette Whittle, Jr., 91, of Columbia, will be held 12:30 o’clock, Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Covenant Community Fellowship, with The Rev. Terrie Hay and The Rev. Amos Hann officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at 2 o’clock. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 11:30 o’clock. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, SC Chapter, 3223 Sunset Blvd, Ste 100, West Columbia, SC 29169.
Mr. Whittle passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011. Born in Richland Co, on March 30, 1920, he was a son of the late Thomas E. and Gertie Mae Whittle. Thomas served his country for 30 years as a member of the US Army. After surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor, Mr. Whittle went on to serve bravely in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-five years, Louise Dinkins Whittle; daughter, Sandra Madie Smith; son, Thomas “Chuck” E. Whittle; another son, Dale Whittle, passed away in infancy; 16 grandchildren survive; as well as step-daughters, Brenda Snow, and husband Chuck, and Ann Long; and step-sons, Bobby Lee and wife, Pam, Pete Lee and wife, Gina.
