William Rice Sloan

A funeral service for William “Billy” Rice Sloan, Jr., 70, of Winnsboro, will be held 1 o’clock, Monday, January 2, 2012 at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia, with The Rev. (name) officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12 o’clock. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, 1200 Mason Rd, Columbia. Memorials may be made to Faith Home, 144 Faith Home Rd, Greenwood, SC 29649.

Mr. Sloan died peacefully Thursday, December 29, 2011, with his family by his side. Born in Columbia, SC on May 3, 1941, he was a son of the late William R. and Miriam Johnson Sloan, Sr. He was a 1959 Eau Claire High School graduate. Mr. Sloan was a member of the United States Navy from 1960 to 1962, assigned to the USS Springfield. After completion of his active duty tour, he joined the Navy Reserves. He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, Harley enthusiast; and he loved his dogs Jackie, Blackie, and Harley. Mr. Sloan will be remembered as being a very loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Sloan of 47 years; sons, Brian Keith (Pam) Sloan, Andy (Pam) Sloan; daughter, Susie Sloan (Tony) Amick; sister, Bea (Jimmy) Ross, of North Charleston; grandchildren, David Johnson, Christopher Sloan, Sharon (Chris) Watson, Justyn Sloan, Hunner Mancil, Travis Amick, and Joshua Sloan; and his great-grandchild, Caroline. Mr. Sloan was preceded in death by his parents, aunts, and uncles.
