William Wallace Wharton Jr.

COLUMBIA – Funeral services for William Wallace Wharton, Jr., 85, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel with interment in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Wharton was born August 20, 1925 in Buffalo, SC and passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. He was the son of the late William Wallace Wharton, Sr. and Mary Rountree Wharton Lloyd. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church. Mr. Wharton was a 1950 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He was president of Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity and served 3 years in the United States Navy. He was president and member of the Columbia Country Club and retired tax accountant from the Internal Revenue Service after 30 years of service.

Mr. Wharton is survived by his granddaughters, Amanda Felder of Irmo, Amber Flowers of West Columbia; sister, Mary Ann Ray of Aiken and great-grandchildren, Lane Felder of Irmo, Mason Flowers and Ragan Flowers both of West Columbia. He was predeceased by his parents; and wife, Mary Lou Wharton and step son, Charles Hall, Jr.
