
COLUMBIA - A service to remember Mr. Yalla Muniswamy Reddy,76, known as “Y.M." to his friends, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel. Mr. Reddy died Friday, March 4, 2016. Born on March 6, 1939 in Iggaluru, India to the late K. Yellareddy and Sakamma, he came to the United States in his 30’s to start his family and pursue his life as a civil engineer. He served the United States as a civilian employee of the military, first at Shaw AFB and then at Fort Jackson, from where he retired after a long and distinguished career. He was also landlord to many in the Columbia area and helped lead the effort to build the Hindu Temple and Cultural Center of South Carolina. He is survived by his sons, Vivek Reddy of Houston, TX and Venkatesh Reddy (Keelin) of San Francisco, CA; granddaughters, Indira Reddy and Elina Reddy; sister, Eramma Reddy of Iggaluru, India; brother, Yalla Srinivasa Reddy (Linda) of West Columbia; nephew, Dylan Reddy; nieces, Vidya Burek, Pushpa Reddy, Vasundara Reddy and Jamuna Reddy; mother to his sons, Bhagya Reddy of Larkspur, CA; and countless more nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were his family here and in India.
