Columbus, GA- Alvie Bernard Lewis, Jr., age 78, of Columbus, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Edgewood Hall at 3:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby with burial to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Dr. Kevin Calhoun will officiate. Visitation 6-8 Friday at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be Chuck Ray, Fletcher Ray, Steve Simpson, Tommy Korzan, and Joseph Yawn.
Mr. Lewis was born November 5, 1935 in Dothan, AL. the son of Alvie Bernard Lewis, Sr. and Bernell Beasley Lewis. Mr. Lewis a graduate of Auburn University and was the owner/operator of A&S Carpets. He was a former member of Jaycees and was a former advisor for Junior Achievement. He was a member of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, the Columbus Board of Realtors, and the Columbus Apartment Association. He was also a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church.
Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Sue Yawn Lewis; a son, James Alvie Lewis; and a brother, Don Lewis. He is survived by a daughter, Carol Sue Korzan and her husband, Buddy, of Columbus; a son, Donald Edward Lewis of Columbus; a sister, Dianne Jones and her husband, Richard, of Opelika, AL; a brother, Dr. Glyn Lewis and his wife, Debra, of Marietta, GA; one grandson, Ricky Korzan; and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
