

Arthur “Artie” Shaw, age 74, of Columbus, died on January 2, 2018. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 3:00 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, and Reverend Wayne Veal will be officiating. Visitations will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 and from 2:00-2:50 prior to services.
Mr. Shaw is the son of the late Arthur Shaw and Lucile Linder Shaw. He married Sarah Ann G. Shaw, who was his wife of 30 years. Artie loved her dearly, she was the most wonderful and finest wife a man could have, and they were together for 34 years.
He was born October 11, 1943, in Columbus. He was a member of the Rosehill Masonic Lodge and the Alscar Shrine. Mr. Shaw was a proud member of the Phenix City Moose Lodge 1876, since 1972 where he faithfully served. During his time as a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, he served in many positions. He served in all chairs of his Lodge including Governor and was an officer for 19 years, serving every committee during his membership. He earned the Highest Honor in the fraternity, the Pilgrim Degree of Merit and was the International Moose Legion President. Artie also served in all offices in Alabama, including, Alabama State President, Dixie 115 Moose Legion President, and Alabama Deputy Supreme Governor and as a Deputy Regional Manager. He was the international Moose Legion Shining Star in 1988 and the Top International Ambassador in 1988. His family was the Loyal Order of Moose of over 1 Million. Artie, was also a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He therefore had the honor of being known as Colonel Artie Shaw. Artie had outlived most of his friends, most have preceded him in death. There are a few that survive him that he was close to, Bob Fousek, J.M. Hayes, and Bill and Donna Hasting. They were always there for him and Sarah, they were very special. After Sarah’s passing, Artie developed a wonderful relationship with Betty Whitehead. Betty became a special friend who meant a great deal to him. He cared for her deeply, enjoying the time the spent together, and the comfort they brought to each other. Also surviving are a Grandson Joel Cashman and his wife, as well as a Great Grandson Adrian. Artie enjoyed fishing. Artie wanted to be clear, he is and was a proud member of the Loyal Order of Moose, joining in 1972.
