Arwood Begor, age 100, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024. A visitation for the family and friends of Arwood will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 212 12th St, Columbus, Georgia 31901, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM.
Arwood was born September 29, 1923 in Hampton, VA to the late William M. Begor and Sallie Floyd Begor. He graduated from Palm Beach High School, and received a BBA from Emory University.
Arwood proudly served with the eighth air force in England during World War II as a navigator on a B-17 Bomber and received an honorable discharge in 1944.
He married his high school sweetheart Doris Jarriel on July 5, 1945.
Arwood retired from Wipo MFg. Co as an executive vice president, he was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Columbus and a member of the Scarbrough Bible Class. He was a member of Kiwanis Club, Friday Friars and former member of Columbus County Club and the River Club.
He volunteered as a counselor with (Score) Service Corp of Executives for 25 years and was a past Scoutmaster for troop #57, which was sponsored by First Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by: his wife Doris Begor and grandson Scott Begor.
He is survived by his brother, Billy Begor Lake Worth, FL; son, Steve Begor Chicago, IL; daughters, Sally Crummey (Eric) Dunwoody, GA, Susan Arnold (Jimmy) Waverly Hall, GA; grandchildren, Brian Beatty, Roswell, GA, Alison Begor, Lexington, KY, David Begor, Chicago, IL; great grandchildren Bo Beatty, Matthew Beatty, Jack Beatty, Kelly Beatty (all of Roswell GA), Aidan Lawless and Gavin Lawless, Lexington, KY.
