

Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, 2 p.m. with Reverend (Dr.) Jimmy Elder officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sam Dunton, Joe Poats, James Tally, Abraham Johnson, Ricky Locklar, and Scott Locklar. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 6-8 p.m.
Mr. Dunton, son of the late Raymond Everett Dunton and Edith Archer Townsend Dunton, was born January 27, 1918 in Port Chester, NY. After high school, Mr. Dunton graduated college from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, majoring in Electrical Engineering. After college he began working at General Electric and was then drafted into the military. During his active duty military career he served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. After returning from the war, he then served his country honorably with the National Guard, culminated a distinguished career of 20 years service to his country, retiring at the rank of Captain. While serving his country, he was employed with Fieldcrest Mills as a purchasing agent, where he faithfully served for over 38 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church Columbus; former member of the Rotary; former Masonic member; and also Past President of the Lions Club.
Mr. Dunton was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Ann Freeman Dunton; a sister, Helen Dunton Slocomb; and three brothers, Lawrence Dunton, Cliffort Dunton, and Everett Dunton. He is survived by one daughter, Kimberly A. Dunton of Columbus; two sons, Carl B. Dunton and his wife Teresa of Columbus and Bradford C. Dunton and his wife Cathy of Columbus; four grandchildren, Lindsay E. Dunton, Sarah E. Dunton, Benjamin P. Dunton, and Samuel J. Dunton; 26 nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
