A graveside service will be held on Wednesday January 12, 2022 at 3:00 PM in Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia. Family will visit with friends at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM and will go to the graveside at time of the service.
Billy was born in Slocomb, Alabama to the late Wynell and Ralph Vinson. He was a graduate of Jordan Vocational High School in Columbus, Georgia. Billy proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He served during the Vietnam conflict as a helicopter gunner and his specialty was a helicopter mechanic. Billy worked for Georgia Power for over 37 years. While he worked at Georgia Power he attended Columbus College. After he retired from Georgia Power he remained working for USSI Power Secure and had been enjoying his retirement for the past six years. Billy enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and reminiscing about his time spent in the Marines. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and especially loved him. He was true patriot to his country and a loving father, grandfather and friend.
Billy is survived by his daughters: Terressa Vinson Garner of Winder, GA and Angela Vinson Shimp of Grayson, GA; his grandchildren: Michael Peek of Monroe, GA and Savanna Shimp of Grayson, GA;his great grandchildren: Makenzie and Grayson Peek of Monroe, GA; his sisters: Valinda Voight of Woodstock, GA and Sharon Burgos of Hogansville, GA; his companion, Nancy Williams and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wynell and Ralph Vinson; his grandsons Daniel Peek and Anthony Garner.
