Bobby Lee Chambers went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 20, 2014. Bobby’s first love was Jesus Christ, followed by his wife whom he affectionately referred to as “my Virginia,” his family, extended family, his church, and his many close friends and neighbors.
The family will welcome guests Friday, May 23, 2014 1:00-3:00 PM for visitation at Morningside Baptist Church, 6065 Morningside Dr. Columbus, GA. AT 3:00 PM there will be a Celebration Of Life Service at Morningside Baptist, followed by a Committal Service at Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus, GA.
Bobby worked in the dairy business for 37 years and, after retirement, started working as a bailiff for the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office. He worked his last full day one week before he passed peacefully at St. Francis hospital in Columbus, Ga—he was 86 years old. No one liked to work, especially in “the mine,” more than Bobby; he contributed his entire life, not only to his various careers, but most importantly through his dedicated service and love for the Lord and his church. He was an active member and deacon of Rose Hill Baptist Church for over 50 years and also for the last 10 years served as member and deacon at Morning Side Baptist Church. Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Virginia; children Connie Bruner (Jimmy), Debbie Michelson, and Howell Chambers. Bobby and Virginia were blessed with 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous other children and grandchildren who were happily accepted as “family” and were privileged to know Bobby as their “Papa.” Flowers or memorials will be gratefully accepted to the building fund at Morningside Baptist Church.
