

A service of Witness and Celebration of Brenda’s life will be held Monday, September 22, 2025 at 1:00PM, at Rose Hill Baptist Church with the Reverend Edward Kvietkus, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in Howard Hall.
Brenda was born September 25, 1946 in Columbus, GA, daughter of the late Henry Paul and Dorothy Alma Jones. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1964. She also graduated with honors from Columbus State University with a degree in education.
Brenda taught 2nd grade school for 2 years, worked for attorneys Jack Brinkley and Kenneth Henson, and retired from Columbus Regional’s Accounting Department.
Brenda met the love of her life at the age of 17 when Larry was home on leave after he was a part of the Blockade of Cuba in 1962. They married on June 18, 1966. Brenda is referred to by her husband as a “special angel”.
Brenda was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church where she played the piano and pipe organ. Brenda was given the gift of music. Her gift of music blessed many. She played the piano and pipe organ for three different churches for 67 years in addition to numerous occasions.
Brenda was a member of Jubal Ministries of the Georgia Baptist Mission Board for 9 years. She travelled to many different places including mission trips to Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia.
Brenda enjoyed sewing, quilting and travelling. She collected coffee mugs from each state she visited. She enjoyed playing Mexican train dominoes with her husband, family and close church friends, and she was adept at the game. Brenda enjoyed doing mission work and visiting those at the end of life to provide comfort by the way of song and music. She was always there to be of help to her friends and family.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Eugene Jones.
Brenda is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Larry H. Duncan; two children, Lynn Goree (Chuck), and Jason Duncan (Sarah); five grandchildren, Russell Kelly. Jackson Kelly (Lucy), Andrew Kelly, Wyatt Duncan and Morgan Duncan; six siblings, Thomas E. Jones (Linda), Pauline Williams, Patricia Grover, Sanford Jones, and Larry Jones (Kathy); one sister-in-law, Glenda Jones; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hear the Crys of the Children (orphanage for girls) or Mercy Ships at mercyships.org. Contributions can also be made to Rose Hill Baptist Church and those contributions will be sent to Hear the Children Cry or Mercy Ships.
