Carolyn was born January 13, 1929 in Quincey, Florida to the late Faye McGimpsey Hewitt and Clyde Burton Hewitt, Sr. She graduated from Columbus High School and attended Ward Belmont Junior College in Nashville, Tennessee.
She was a member of St. Luke Methodist Church for 87 years. Carolyn served as a Sunday school teacher, President of both The United Methodist Women and Missionary Circle #9. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Food Pantry. One of her joyful hobbies was gardening and she was an active member of The Ivy Garden Club. She retired from Hardaway High School where she served as Secretary.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 55 years, Floyd Mitchell, Jr.; brother, C.B. Hewitt, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Betsey Hewitt.
She is survived by her son, Floyd Mitchell III (Susan); three grandchildren, Laura Mitchell Knight (Chance), William Thomas Mitchell, and Thomas Cooper Mitchell; nephew, C. Burton Hewitt III (Shirley); and nieces, Carole Hewitt and Pegi Hewitt Williams (Skip).
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at St. Luke Church with Reverend Thad Haygood officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Columbus, Georgia. Interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
