When Charles was in grade school he met a girl who would one day become his wife, her name was Martha Jean Craft. Charles and Jean have been together since the 4th grade. He attended Baker High School. Charles was the quarterback and head of the track team. He lettered in the 9th grade and that was a great achievement. After high school, Charles joined the United States Air Force and faithfully served his country for four years. While in the military, he married the love of his life and his best friend, Jean on January 10, 1959. In December of 1959, they welcomed their first daughter and ten years later their second daughter. After the Air Force Charles settled in the Columbus area and worked repairing business machines for many years with Columbus Business Machines. Charles was a loving husband, father, and Pawpaw who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Risa Burns Lyman; his grandson, David Desimas and his wife Jonah Miller; his great grandson Thad Desimas; his daughter Robyn Wieczorek and her husband James Wieczorek; his grandson Dylan Forbes; and good friends Josh Igus and Willie Brown.
Charles is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Jean Craft Burns and his parents, De Loris and Francis Burns.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM in Parkhill Cemetery.
