Cora Player Culpepper was the daughter of Frank Anthony Player and Miriam Clemens Fleming. She was educated at Westminster Academy, Emory University, and Columbus State University. Cora was a Certified Respiratory Therapist, an Emergency Medical Technician and worked in Neonatal Transport at the Medical Center Hospital until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband James Manning Culpepper of Ft. Valley, Georgia. Manning and Cora were married for 55 years until his death in 2019. Cora is survived by her children, Michael Hopkins, Jim Culpepper and his wife, Marlene Culpepper, and Frank Culpepper and his wife Nicole Culpepper. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Sarah Isabel Jones and her husband James Austin Jones, Haley Fleming Culpepper, Aidan Dawson Culpepper and Ian Fleming Culpepper.
Cora was a member of Phi Mu Sorority, The Colonial Dames of America, the Junior League of Columbus, and of the Seagrove Garden Club. She was an enthusiastic member of the Columbus community. She volunteered with the Columbus Hospice, the Columbus Museum, and through service placements with the Junior League of Columbus.
Cora was an animal lover and long-time supporter of PAWS Humane. She went out of her way to take care of animals. Throughout her life, Cora kept bees, and had many dogs and cats, among them her beloved Dara. Cora enjoyed the beach with a passion. She was a shell collector and created beautiful works of art with the shells that she collected. Cora loved entertaining and cherished spending time with her grandchildren and friends.
A Celebration of Cora’s life service will be held on Wednesday November 2, 2022 at 3:00 PM in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, Georgia. Family will visit with friends from 2:00 PM until time of the service at 3:00 PM. Cora will be laid to rest in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia.
