David Wayne Moon, 62, passed away on January 10, 2021. Wayne was born on October 8, 1958, in Knoxville, TN, the son of Mamie and Wilbur Moon. Following the deaths of his parents, he moved to Columbus, GA to live with his sister, Gail Browning Staley.
Wayne loved his life in Columbus. He especially enjoyed being a member of the Friends of Jesus Sunday School Class at Hilton Terrace Baptist Church and working at Burger King where he treasured 28 years of service. He was passionate about bowling, coloring pictures, and all things country western. Through work and play, Wayne was quick with a smile, a kind word, and a remembrance of everyone’s birthday.
Special appreciation goes to St. Francis Hospital for the care he received in his last days, to Marvin Schuster and the employees at Burger King for their support of the special needs community, and to the leaders of the special needs ministries at Hilton Terrace Baptist Church and Wynnbrook Baptist Church.
Wayne will be greatly missed by his two sisters and their husbands, Gail and Milton Staley and Janice and Mike Hudson, as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews spread throughout the United States. Previously deceased siblings are Wilbur Jr., Michael, Kay, and Ted (survived by wife, Vicki).
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM, Sunday, January 17, 2021, at Hilton Terrace Baptist Church. The service will be live streamed on the Hilton Terrace Baptist Church Facebook page. COVID protocol will be observed. A private burial will be at Clark’s Grove Cemetery in Maryville, TN.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the special needs ministry at Hilton Terrace Baptist Church.
