David Lee Shelton, age 91, died August 16, 2025, in Bluffton, South Carolina. David was born on April 30, 1934, in Ozark, Arkansas; his parents were Velta Eulah McKenzie Shelton and Charles Harold Shelton. He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Susan Elizabeth Shelton; his son and daughter-in-law Charles David Shelton and Deborah Kole Shelton; son-in-law, Larry Lorenz; his granddaughter McKenzie Kate Shelton, his sister and brother-in-law Linda Sue Shelton Frederick and Dr. Dale Frederick, sisters-in-law Martha Watkins and Alice Kimmons; brother-in-law, Hugh Horne; many wonderful nieces, a special nephew, as well as many cousins. David is preceded in death by his devoted parents and his precious daughter Janet Denise Shelton Lorenz.
David grew up in a military environment; graduated from the Philippines at Clark AFB in a class of 8; joined the Army in Tucson, Arizona, in August of 1953; and was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne. He achieved a rewarding career in the computer field; he especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends, travelling worldwide, and riding his Harley. He also gave to many special charities.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM in the chapel. A celebration of David’s life will be held in Bluffton, South Carolina but announced later.
