Dorothy Louise Bodiford

Dorothy "Dot" Bodiford, age 86, resident of Columbus, died on July 12, 2010 in Waycross, GA. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Thursday, July 15, 2010, 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the grandsons, Harold Crisman, Kevin Boswell, Keith Boswell, Woodrow Smith, Eddie Frederickson, and Ben Bodiford. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. Mrs. Bodiford, daughter of the late Gustav Joseph Springmann and Kathryn Lee Crowder Springmann, was born February 11, 1924 in Atlanta, GA. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church; member of the Daughters of the Nile; and also a Shrinette. Mrs. Bodiford was retired from the City of Columbus where she served faithfully for over 28 years as Playground Director for the Columbus Recreation Department and also school crossing guard. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Bodiford, Jr and also a daughter, Carolyn Crisman. Mrs. Bodiford is survived by two daughters, Elaine Smith and her husband Woodrow of Snellville, GA and Diane Everett and her husband Johnnie of Savannah, GA; one son, Benjamin Joseph Bodiford and his wife Tyrann of Levelland, TX; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
