Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 3:00 PM in Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby with Reverend Eric M. Estes officiating. Burial will be on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 10:00 AM in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in the Wildwood room from 5:00 until 7:00 in the evening according to Striffler-Hamby, Columbus.
Douglas B. Nelson, Sr. was born on December 14, 1931 to the late Mildred L. and Irving Nelson in Washington, Missouri. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War; he was also a retired State Farm Insurance Agent; member of the VFW; Moose Lodge; past president of Edgewood Football, East Columbus Baseball, Hawkbackers, and East Columbus Babe Ruth Clubs.
He is survived by his sons, Douglas B. Nelson, Jr. of Cincinnati, OH, Richard K. Nelson of Sacramento, CA, Gregory C. Nelson, of Nashville, TN; daughters, Karen Ellis of Columbus, GA, Sharon Nicholson of Atlanta, GA; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
