

Elizabeth Haden Rentz Turner, age 90, of Columbus, went to her heavenly home on Monday, July 6, 2015. Funeral services are scheduled in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 2:00pm with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home with interment at Parkhill Cemetery.
Ms. Turner, daughter of the late Arthur Bunn and Leon Haden Rentz, was born October 8, 1924 in Columbus, Georgia. She was a member of The First Baptist Church in Columbus, as well as the Joy Sunday School Class. Ms. Turner attended and graduated Georgia State Women’s College in Valdosta, Georgia and became an Elementary school teacher in Muscogee County for 30 years. She is also remembered for her love of gardening and the outdoors. Ms. Turner’s grandchildren and the Columbus Hospice Staff enjoyed hearing Ms. Turner sing “Always” which she sang when she was crowned Miss Columbus in 1950.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Eugene Rentz and Arthur Bunn Rentz Jr. Ms. Turner is survived by her children, Barbara T. Hobbs of Box Springs, GA., Becky T. Lee (Bob) of Box Springs, GA., Charles Turner (Evelyn) of Gainesville, GA.; grandchildren, Shelley Hobbs, Devin Hobbs (Rose), Samantha Welch (Mitch), Amy Lee Dobbins (Jonathan), Frank Lee; seven great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Frances Rentz and Susie Rentz.
The family is most appreciative to the staff and outstanding care given by Columbus Hospice House.
