Esther H Robinson

Emily Esther Harris Robinson, age 101, died on January 7, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospice House in Athens, GA. She was born in Chattahoochee County in 1910 and resided in Columbus for most of her life. Mrs. Robinson had been at Magnolia Estates Assisted Living (Elberton, GA) since 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband of 78 years, Louie Thomas Robinson, Sr. in 2006.

Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker most of her life. Active in many church and community activities, she served as local and state president of the Parent Teacher Association, served in the local chapter of the Columbus Firefighters Association Auxiliary, and was employed for eighteen years at Kiralfy's. She was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, L. Thomas Robinson, Jr. (Gloria) of Atlanta; two daughters, Betty Robinson and Ann Robinson Eckler (Richey) of Elberton; four grandchildren, Tommy Robinson (Maidlene) of Suwanee, GA, Pam Robinson Coombs (T.J.) of Atlanta, Elizabeth Eckler Sasser (Kelly) of Durham, NC, and Katie Eckler Sulka (Jeffrey) of Cumming, GA; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Natalie Robinson, Ethan Sulka and Wren Sasser, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Robinson was the last surviving child of Henry Raymond and Eula Mattie Kemp Harris and was the youngest of fourteen siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 ; officiating will be Dr. LeBron Matthews, Rev. David Helms, and Rev. Kelly Sasser, interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Leslie McSwain, Dan Robinson, Mark Webster, Allan Webster, Tommy Robinson and T.J. Coombs. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
