Faye Ables Pylant, age 98, passed on March 28, 2026, and was born March 17, 1928 in Fayetteville, Tennessee to the late Virgie Locker Ables and R. A. Ables. Faye received her BA in Elementary Education form Belhaven College, M Ed from Georgia State University and Education Specialist from Georgia State University. She was married to Kenneth Dean Pylant and together they called Columbus, Georgia home. Mrs. Faye was an educator with the Jackson, Miss., Orlando, FL, and Muscogee County School Districts where she taught second grade and sixth grade with second grade being her favorite age to teach. She was honored with being named Outstanding Teacher of Muscogee County, 1978-79. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma; Philonian Club; Muscogee County Retired Teachers; Gracious Ladies of Georgia.
She loved her family dearly, they were her universe. She was Christian by faith and loved sharing her faith through her dedication to her church, Edgewood Church of Christ where she was a member for many years. She also taught Sunday School for many years. Her dedication to her faith was instrumental in her values and she found great reward in giving back to others through charity work for her community. Mrs. Faye loved to go shopping, gardening, sewing, and cooking for her family-especially during the holidays. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and especially loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Pylant Meckes; her grandchildren: Justin Clark Meckes, Linnley Meckes Cox (Kevin), Gregory Dean Meckes (Lara), Kenneth Dean Pylant III (Meri), Adam Carl Pylant, Blake MacMichael Pylant, and William Sharman-Ables Pylant (Lauren); her great-grandchildren, Ryker Douglas Cox, Foster Dean Cox, Lilliana A. Pylant, Kenneth D. Pylant IV, Kaydence A. Pylant, Wyatt F. Pylant, Eleanor V. Pylant, Lunday J. Pylant, and Lucy B. Pylant; her brother, Bruce Ables; her sister, Dixie Ables Offutt; and her brother, Lex Ables, and Mrs. Faye also leaves several nieces, nephews and other family members to cherish her loving memory. She was preceded in death by her father, R. A. Ables; her mother, Virgie Lee Locker Ables; her beloved husband, Kenneth Dean Pylant; her beloved son, Kenneth Dean Pylant II; her brother, Charles Ray Ables; her sister, Earnestine A. Wilson; her sister, Ruth A. Douglas; her sister, Kathleen A. Smith; and her brother, Don Ables.
Visitation for Family and Friends will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Fisher Chapel, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907, on April 3, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Celebration of Life Service for Faye A. Pylant at 11:00 am.
