Garnett C. Shackelford III, 85, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 22, 2021 and 11:30AM at Parkhill cemetery.
Garnett was born in Columbus, GA, on February 20, 1936 to the late Garnett C. Shackelford Jr. and Araminta Trulock Shackelford. He attended Riverside Military High school and graduated from Columbus High school. As a teenager, he worked at his father’s drug store called Shackelford’s Drug Store in Columbus. In his younger years, Garnett loved to hunt and fish and spending time with family. Garnett married the love of his life, Charlene, in 1963 at St. Luke UMC in Columbus, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Navy for 4 Years. Garnett was known for his love, being a supportive husband, love of old movies and TV shows, such as, The Andy Griffith Show, John Wayne Movies, and Star Trek. He also loved to tell jokes and will be remembered for his many funny stories. He was proud of his family and loved helping anyway he could. He is preceded in death by his parents, Garnett C. Shackelford Jr. and Araminta Trulock Shackelford, and Daughter Carolyn Baylor Shackelford. Survivors include, his wife of 55 years, Charlene “Jan” Shackelford; his children, John Shackelford and Brooke Tew; two grandchildren, Ally and Christopher Tew and niece, Allison Sessions Scarbrough.
