George Moss, beloved father, grandfather, minister, veteran, and friend, passed away on August 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and compassion that touched lives across the globe. Born to William and Sarah Steel Moss on November 2, 1938, George grew up in Glen White and Lester, West Virginia, where lies the foundation of his character, generosity, and deep spiritual conviction.
He shared his early life with his sister Angeline and his cherished niece and best friend, Lois Cross. George graduated from West Virginia State University, where he was a proud member and president of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, active in ROTC, and a dedicated athlete on the track team. His innate leadership qualities and discipline led him to a distinguished military career in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1977, serving in roles such as Race Relations/Equal Opportunity Officer at Fort Benning, Georgia, and as a Classified Nuclear Weapons Specialist and Company Commander at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
George continued his academic journey, earning a master’s degree from Troy State University and receiving an honorary doctorate. But his greatest achievement came after his military service, when he answered the spiritual call to ministry. He graduated from Rhema Bible Training Center in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and began a new chapter as a minister. He served as associate pastor at Grace Fellowship before founding George Moss Ministries, a mission that would take him to Guatemala, Honduras, Africa, Canada, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Slovenia, India, the Philippines, and throughout the United States.
George was a thoughtful and caring husband and father, devoted to his wife Laura Eugene Moss and children. Together, they raised three sons and adopted one daughter. His family was his heart, and his ministry was his soul. He was a giver in every sense of the word, caring not only for his family but also for friends, church members, and strangers who sought his counsel and comfort. His passion was helping people find the Lord and discover their purpose.
In 2018, George was inducted into the West Virginia State University ROTC Hall of Fame, a testament to his lifelong commitment to leadership and service.
George is survived by his sons, George Ishmael Moss, Andrew Justice Moss, and Joel Emmanuel Moss (Autumn), and Raquel Kadrmas; his grandchildren, Laura Renée Fisher (Zachary), Andrew Jaden Moss, Joel Isaiah Moss (Noea), Atlas Moss, Amy Kadrmas-Riesberg (Jeremy), and Ryan Kadrmas; and his great-grandchildren Eden Joy Fisher, Samuel Redell Fisher, Kai Moss, Vincent Riesberg, Jackson Riesberg, Tristan Riesberg, and Logan Riesberg. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, along with the countless lives he influenced through his ministry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sarah Moss; his wife, Laura Eugene Moss; his older siblings, Mary Jackson, Angeline Morehead, John “Buddy” Moss, Sarah Elizabeth Moss, Lewis “Cooter” Moss, Rhoda Virginia Collins, Lula Delores Hughes, and Joe Lewis Moss; and his beloved niece and best friend, Lois Cross.
George Moss will be remembered not only for what he did, but for who he was—a man of unwavering faith, boundless generosity, and a heart that beat for others. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely.
