A memorial service with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. The service will be livestreamed to the funeral home’s Facebook page at Striffler-Hamby Morutary at Parkhill Cemetery.
In keeping with the efforts to control the spread of COVID-19, social distancing guidlines will be observed and facemasks will be required.
LTC (Ret.) Basilio was born March 21, 1944 in the Philippines. He joined the U.S. Army and was in the Army Nurse Corp. LTC (Ret.) Basilio was a Vietnam Veteran. During his career he and his family traveled to many army bases. His last duty station was at Ft. Benning’s Martin Army Community Hospital where he was in charge of the Troop Medical Clinic and Family Practice. He retired after 22 years of distinguished service. During his military career he was awarded numerous medals and commendations that include the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Expert Field Medical Badge.
LTC (Ret.) Basilio is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Dr. Florida Basilio; his three children, Christian Basilio and His wife, Dana, Gil Basilio, Jr., and Dr. Iris Basilio Sebert and her husband, Ryan; his three grandchildren, Elise Basilio, Elin Sebert and Ethan Sebert, and numerous other family members and friends.
