Glen Allen Jones went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 25th, 2023. His family was grateful to share life on Earth with him for 52 years. He was born on the 16th of March 1971 at Martin Army Hospital on Fort Benning, Georgia. He grew up an Army kid and enjoyed meeting new people and living in new places. He never met a stranger and could always find a way to connect with new acquaintances. Glen genuinely liked people.
Glen moved three times in high school because of family military assignments and attended high school in Louisiana, Pennsylvania and his last year in Georgia. He graduated from Pacelli High School, had a wonderful senior year and made lifelong friends there.
He graduated with a B.A. in History from Columbus State University. History always held his interest and was fun to learn. While at Columbus State, Glen joined the Kappa Sigma fraternity and was active in the fraternity events and met new pledges for many years. The friendships and time shared with these brothers were sincere and lasted his entire life. They were truly brothers and family.
Glen found his calling in life as a trainer at TSYS, now Global Payments. They say the most reluctant students make the best teachers. That was certainly true in Glen’s case! He loved teaching and the challenges of helping people understand what they were learning. He loved using humorous stories to illustrate points he was trying to make. He was fun to be around in all situations. Glen will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.
There will be a memorial service for Glen on Saturday, December 2nd at 11:00am in the Porter Chapel of First Baptist Church, Columbus, Georgia. Services will be conducted by Reverend Dr. Jimmy Elder. Visitation will be held after the service in the chapel.
Glen was preceded in death by his father, Gary Allen Jones. His memory will continue to be cherished by his mother, LeLone Jones; his brother-in-law and sister, Benji and Lauren Marquez; and many special family members and friends. Glen loved and cherished his family and friends. They all enriched his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to Historic Columbus Foundation or First Baptist Church of Columbus, Georgia.
