
Graveside services are scheduled at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus on Monday, January 17, 2011, 1 p.m. with Reverend Paul Buckhiester officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Mr. Gunn, son of the late Elijah Gunn and Ella Mae Jones Gunn, was born July 29, 1920 in Dadeville, Alabama. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp, where he served his country honorably in World War II. Mr. Gunn was a member of Midway United Methodist Church. He retired from Lummus Cotton Gin with over 30 years of faithful service and then retired from the City of Columbus with over 15 years of dedicated service. Mr. Gunn was preceded in death by his wife Lola Boxall Gunn; three brothers, Obie, Cecil, and J.D. Gunn; two sisters, Bethel Gunn and LaRue Gunn Murphy.
He is survived by one brother, Otis Gunn and his wife June of Hamilton, Georgia; a daughter, Carolyn G. Simpson and her husband Charles of Gresham, OR; one son, James W. Gunn Sr., and his wife Nancy of Columbus; five grandchildren, David, Chris, and Carl Simpson of Gresham, Oregon, Jennifer Cameron (John) and James W. Gunn, Jr., (Tina) of Columbus; three great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
