

James was born, raised and educated in Ireland. He was ordained a priest in Ireland in 1968. Since coming to the United States in 1992, he served as a priest in Augusta and Albany with the Diocese of Savannah, Georgia. He married his wife Ingrid in 2002 and afterwards served as a chaplain in St. Francis Hospital, ministering in Franciscan Woods, the Bradley Center as well as in the hospital. He retired at the end of 2017.
He loved and participated in many different types of sports and played tennis and golf until his later years. Throughout his life, James travelled extensively. After marrying Ingrid, they both enjoyed visiting countries in Europe, North Africa, Central America and across the USA.
James is survived by his beloved wife Ingrid (Breunig), his brothers Tony (Toronto, Canada), Tom ( Cobh, Ireland), sister Anne (Leixlip, Ireland), sister-in-law Windon, brother-in-law Garry. Adopted daughter Gwen (Lusaka,Zambia ), nieces, nephews, grandniece and grandnephew, stepsons Alexander (Frances) Chavez, Nicholas (AnnMarie) Chavez and their families, extended family and friends. James was preceded in death by his sister Noreen.
James and his wife and soul mate Ingrid shared a profound and special love, which was expressed by the loving care given to him, which he always humbly and graciously appreciated in his final years battling ALS.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, Columbus, Georgia on Saturday August 21, 2021 at 11 o’clock by Fr. Barry Stanton and friends and class mates of the deceased. May he Rest In Peace.
