Jimmy grew up in Aiken, SC and graduated with a business degree from The University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. He worked in management for Sears and Roebuck in South Carolina. While with Sears, he and his wife Mary lived in New Orleans, LA and Gadsden, AL before moving to Columbus, GA in the early 1970s. He finished his career with Sears as GM at the Auburn, AL store. He later accepted a position at Flournoy Construction, where he worked until his official retirement.
When not working, he enjoyed camping with his family in the North Georgia mountains. Mary Kay and Sammy recall many summers at the campground. He loved fishing with Buddy Keller, going to The Masters (40+ years) and watching his South Carolina Gamecocks football. He loved telling stories and jokes, always having a new one to share. He was a Christian and often said, "The greatest gift is love." He demonstrated this by the affection he showed to his family and friends. He will be fondly remembered by his friends and loved ones.
The family will receive friends at Striffler-Hamby, Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A service, celebrating his life, will be held in the chapel at Striffler-Hamby on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 11:00 am with Rev. Andrew Spires, Lakewood Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL officiating.
