

James Elmer Holder, a cherished and faithful resident of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away on January 3, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on July 17, 1939, James was known for his hard-working nature and his dedication to both his family and his country.
James, affectionately known as Pops, served as a veteran in the US Army, specializing in combat engineering. His distinguished military career was marked by the receipt of the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
In his personal life, Pops was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beula Mae Henderson. He is survived by his step-sons, Billy Henderson (Cindy) and Joe Henderson (Joyce); his son, Steven Holder; his step-daughters, Polly Henderson, Margie Henderson, Mary Henderson, and Janie Henderson; and his grandchildren, Kim, Ronnie, and Billy Henderson.
Pops was a spitfire of energy who loved staying busy, particularly by working around the yard planting vegetables and flowers. He enjoyed engaging in conversations with his neighbors and was known for his warmth and friendliness. Despite his past, Pops found peace and gave his life to the Lord while at home in his hospital bed before his passing. He would often raise his hand in praise while singing "Amazing Grace," believing that death is not the end but a new beginning.
A committal service will be held at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, located at 553 AL-165, Fort Mitchell, AL 36856, on January 12, 2026, from 12:30 pm. Pops will be remembered for his enduring spirit and the legacy he leaves behind.
