Jane Dykes Herndon, of Columbus, GA, died on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Reverend Dr. P. Shane Green and Reverend Dr. Buddy Cooper will officiate.
Jane Elizabeth Dykes was born in Columbus on October 1, 1943, daughter of Mark Monroe (Pete) Dykes and Helen Stembridge Dykes. She attended Wynnton Elementary School, Columbus High School, and Hollins College, Roanoke, Virginia. Following employment in New York City and Atlanta, she married Michael N. Herndon in 1972. In Columbus, she enjoyed several years as a financial analyst with Ameriprise Financial.
Mrs. Herndon was a member of the Sprig and Dig Garden Club and the Tea Olive Garden Club. She enjoyed horseback riding and hunting since childhood, and in more recent years she took pleasure in gardening.
She was predeceased by her husband. She is survived by her sister, Marcia D. Burrus (Philip H. Burrus III) of Tryon, NC, and nephews, Philip H. Burrus IV and Christopher D. Burrus.
