Janice “Jan” Dale Ferguson, 74, passed away unexpectedly on January 29, 2026, in Columbus, Georgia. Born on October 1, 1951, at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, Jan lived a life marked by resilience, warmth, and a deep love for all those around her embodied by her genuine spirit.
Although she experienced many places while growing up in a military family, Jan spent the majority of her life in Columbus. She dedicated her professional career to Columbus Technical College, where she worked with great commitment until she retired. Her presence there left a lasting impression on her colleagues.
Jan was preceded in death by her father, Robert Ferguson; mother, Merle Ferguson; brother, Bob Ferguson; sister, Judy McLeod; nephew, Scott McLeod; dear friend, Rose Tully; and her beloved puppy, Flash, as well as her four birds. She is survived and fondly remembered by her beloved daughter, Amy Mvondo; grandchild, Leigh Dye; grandson, Matthew Dye; brother, Jerald Ferguson and his wife, Jana; son, Robby Gill; granddaughters Piper and Ally Gill; and her cherished fur baby, Ariel.
Jan found joy in life’s simple pleasures such as bible study and talking with her friends, but she also loved adventure. She spent time camping with the wild horses on Cumberland Island, exploring Israel with Rose, and visiting the zoo. Her love for animals was a defining part of who she was.
May Janice’s memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
