Janice Hodges Mathis, 91, of Columbus, died on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Columbus at 3:00pm with Reverend Stephanie Boaz officiating. Burial will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00pm.
Mrs. Mathis, daughter of the late Charles A. Hodges and Addie Etheridge Hodges, was born July 19, 1925 in Henry, Alabama. She owned two local beauty shops and managed Gayfers Hair Salon for over 20 years before retiring. Mrs. Mathis was an active member of Morningside Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Columbus/Ft. Benning Shrine Club Auxiliary, Shrine Club Guardettes, and Military Order of Purple Heart Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Theo Mathis; six brothers and four sisters. Mrs. Mathis is survived by her sons, Mark H. Mathis of Columbus, Charles H. Mathis of Columbus; sister, Juvene Hand of Panama City, FL.; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and many friends and other relatives.
