Jeffery Wayne Chandler was born on July 4, 1962, the son of Jerry Wayne Chandler and the late Linda (West) Chandler. The oldest of three sons, he attended the 31st Street Church of Christ his entire life, serving as a steadfast member of the church, leading the congregation in songs and prayers, teaching the Word and waiting upon the table of the Lord. He loved God, his family, and his community.
He graduated from Kendrick High School in 1980 and continued his education at Columbus Technical School obtaining a graphic arts degree. He worked for Edgewood Printing for 10+ years where he met his future wife, Sandra Lisle. They dated for several years, marrying in 1987.
Jeff and Sandra had their first child, a daughter, Ariel Colette, in 1990. Their son, Jarrod Nicholas, followed in 1993. They were his pride and joy.
Jeff worked at Swift Textiles as a member of their small printing and corporate products department until 2004. He then pursued a pharmacy technician degree, graduating in 2006 and began working at the Medical Center. He began working for Hughston Hospital in 2007, which became Piedmont Columbus Regional. He worked in his capacity as a Pharmacy Tech in each of their local facilities and developed a network of friends throughout the hospital system. Jeff was simply a people person. He not only cared about his coworkers, but he cared deeply for those patients he saw daily, many who asked for him by name and spoke to him about their situations. He gave kindness in small ways when an opportunity presented itself: a cold bottle of water for an older man who said he was really thirsty on a hot day, a chair for an older woman to sit after walking from the bus stop in the heat, etc. He showed how much he cared and they noticed.
Jeff gained a grandson, Jase Noah Chandler, in 2015. Jase is the son of Jarrod and Sarah (Miller) Taylor. Jeff looked forward to the bi-weekly 3-day visits with Jase. Jase held his grandpa’s heart in his hands.
Jeff gained another son when his daughter Ariel, married Jacob Hopkins, in 2017. Jake met Jeff’s high standards for marrying his only daughter and is a perfect fit for the family. Jeff also looked forward to the day his son would marry his sweetheart, Paris Buffet. He was so very proud of his children.
Jeff was very creative with many talents. He enjoyed landscaping and beautifying his yard. He spent weekends searching out old treasures in thrift stores, often finding vintage furniture at a bargain to recover or refinish. He loved a bargain! He taught himself how to cut hair, his own and others. He was a whiz at decorating and made many beautiful flower arrangements. He loved history and enjoyed watching documentaries and movies on different battles and wars, royal families, etc., remembering names/dates that boggled the mind. He also enjoyed long conversations about the Bible, quick with examples to explain his point of view to the unlearned. He had a great sense of humor…he always made his family laugh. He could make you laugh even when you were mad at him. He was fond of using famous movie quotes in conversations, and enjoyed laugh-out-loud comedy movies. His interests were wide and varied. He enjoyed going for long walks in local parks and lying in the sun to improve his tan…and he loved the beach; it was his dream to retire to Florida and live near the beach.
God had other plans for him. Cancer took over his body, but Jeff fought it to the last until the pain became too great. He said he was ready to go to his Heavenly Father, to reunite with his family there.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandra; a daughter, Ariel (Jake) Hopkins; a son, Jarrod (Paris) Chandler; a grandson, Jase Noah Chandler; his father, Jerry Chandler; two brothers, Jimmy (Allison) Chandler, and Robert (Kim) Chandler, and assorted nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Linda (West) Chandler, on January 1, 2022, whom he loved so very much.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Edgewood Hall, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 11:00AM. Family will visit with friends on Saturday morning from 10:00AM to 11:00AM.
