Jerry T. Evans, age 71, resident of Columbus, died on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Vista Care Hospice. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 3 p.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 13, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. Mr. Evans, son of the late N.T. and Beatrice Evans, was born February 9, 1941 in Columbus. He was a retired supervisor at Bibb Mill and was a fireman with the City of Columbus for fifteen years. Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Linda Gayles Evans of Columbus; daughter, Donna McDowell and her husband Gary; sons, Mark Evans and Kenneth Evans; granddaughter, Chelsea Deal; great-granddaughter, Karlee Faye Deal; brother-in-laws, Bobby Gayles and his wife Martha and Billy Gayles and his wife Carolyn; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
