

Mrs. Joanne Mitchell Hill passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at home after a long hard battle with overwhelming health problems. Her courage and attitude was an inspiration to everyone that knew her. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Friday, July 9, 2010, 11 a.m. with Reverend Matt Avera officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. Joanne was born in Chicago, living there until age 10. She had a wonderful loving grandmother raising her. At ten years old, she moved to Oakland, CA to join her mother. Joanne was a cosmetologist, retiring from Gayfers in Columbus. She was an Army wife who thrived on that life style. She lived and worked in six states and spent seven years in Germany traveling extensively throughout Europe. Joanne was proud to be a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and loved Ellerslie United Methodist Church and her church family. She was steadfast in her belief that we will all be reunited in heaven. Joanne is survived by her best friend and husband of nearly 41 years, Stanley R. Hill of Talbot County, GA; her children, Kenneth E. Wix and his wife Lori of San Mateo, CA and Waverly Hall, GA and Rondal H. Wix and his wife Donna of Janesville, CA; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; other relatives and friends. She was extremely proud of her family and had a special place in her heart for Timmy and Stanley, her youngest grandsons and one very special friend and companion "Prissy."
