John Troy James, Jr., age 74, of Midland, Georgia passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019. A visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, November 10, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA 31907, followed by A Celebration of Troy's Life from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Reverend Earl Rawlings will officiate. An interment will be on Monday, November 11, 2019, at 10:00 am in Veteran’s Garden in Parkhill Cemetery.
Troy was born January 24, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to his late parents Nevora Gingrich James and John Troy James, Sr. As a young man, Troy proudly served his country in the US Army. After his military service, he met and fell for the love of his life and married Ms. Janice Culpepper. They were married for 50 years. Troy was a Christian and loved the Lord. He faithfully served his church out of his love for God and his church family. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and attended the former Crystal Valley Baptist Church. He was a mechanic and retired from Sears with over 30 years with the company. Troy loved his family, NASCAR, Drag Racing, and watching Georgia and Oklahoma football. He enjoyed playing with his granddaughters, making faces, and making them laugh. Troy will always be remembered as an honorable and dedicated husband, father, brother, and Christian man of his word with high moral standards. All who knew and loved him will miss him.
Along with his parents, Troy was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Diana James. He is survived by his wife, Janice James; daughter, Julie McCoy; son-in-law, Michael McCoy; brother, Charles James; sister-in-law, Teresa Bonner; brother-in-laws, Phillip Culpepper, Keith Culpepper and Troy Culpepper; granddaughters, Leah McCoy and Kenna McCoy; other family members and many friends.
